They have a very short counter jib and a variable working radius, which permit high productivity in extremely narrow spaces. It's common to have limited space and clearance when working with a tower crane in an urban metro area and downtown work sites. A luffing tower crane is ideal for building projects where there's not much space on either side of the site and you need to work safely. A luffing crane is able to raise or lower its jib, and that allows it to reduce the slewing radius. But there are some disadvantages of the luffing cranes when you compare them to a tower crane: The price of the luffing-jib crane is much higher than a regular tower crane. The tower frames of a luffing tower crane are stronger, and the luffing mechanisms are much bigger than the hoist system of a tower crane. Of course, the technology applied to move the jib, counterweights, etc is the highest. The cost of assembling and disassembling are much higher too. Most of the structures are heavier, and it takes longer to erect a luffing-jib crane. Once again, to erect a crane is more difficult due to the technology applied, etc. The jib of a luffing crane acts as a wall to the wind, and the load moment is much bigger. So the restrictions of the tower are higher. Due to the luffing cranes don't have trolley motor (the movement is made by the total jib), the working process is slower than in a tower crane.

  • Repair And Maintenance Of Tower Crane Motors
    Electric motors are the crucial parts of a tower crane, there are three types of motors for tower crane: Tower Crane Hoist Motor, Tower Crane Trolleying Motor and Tower Crane Slewing Motor. How to maintenance and repair them? 1.Keep tower crane motors are free from dirt, fiber, miscellaneous subjects, water and other conductive liquid; especially on these parts: carbon brush, slip ring and inlet&outlet of ventilation, make sure that they all have good performance. 2. In order to ensure the motors are well lubricated during operation, grease should be applied or replaced every 5000 hrs. First, pay attention to replace the overheated and deteriorated grease in time. Next, remove away the previous grease , clean the shaft and bearing with gasoline. Finally ,follow the instruction to fill the grease into the cavity between inner and outer bearing rings, to degree if it fills 2/3 of the cavity. 3.In case that motor protective device acts continuously, attention should be paid to confirm if the motors are overloaded running or set low in value. In addition,Check the motor casing and make sure the packing insulation value is over 0.5M.The cable of motor shall be free from damage.Tighten the bolt of motor if have demand.

  • Safety Requirement for Construction Hoist Installation
    When installing the building hoists, what safety measures is required? 1. Clean the erection site and fence it with railings. No admittance except on business, forbid constructing operation above the construction hoist when installing to prevent anything fall down to the erection site. 2. There must be the person who has specific duty for installation. 3. Strictly forbid operating the building hoist by non-working person during installing. 4. Operating hoist must be at the roof of cage, don't operate it in Passenger Hoist Cage. 5. The installation can not be done when snow, storm and the wind speed exceeding 13m/s. 6. The lifting device is only use for installing and dismounting parts of hoist and can not be permitted overload. 7. Don't stand under the lifting device during the device is working. 8. Don't move the cage when something is on the lifting device. 9. Person's head and hand can not be out of the safety railing when the hoist is operating. 10. Forbid starting the hoist when someone is working at mast or tie-in; None be allowed to go into the enclosure when the cage goes up. 11. Inspect every parts before the hoist is started. 12. During installation, the load of hoist must be less than the rated load. 13. Do not forget tighten connecting bolts of Construction Hoist Mast Section and tie-in. 14. Inspect and adjust verticality of mast when installing tie-in. 15. After installation, lubricate according to manual.

    How to prevent mechanical wear of wire rope? 1.The mechanical wear of steel wire rope is caused by the running of machine material. In the using process of tower crane, the outer surface get in touch with the surface of the wheel groove, the drum, etc., causing wear, and the wire diameter will be thinned after the wear, and the outer steel surface of the wire is worn and smoothed. Wire surface wear contains single-sided wear and overall wear. 2.The bending fatigue fracture of the tower crane wire rope is caused by rope passing through the wheel groove and retracting of rope in the drum. The steel rope first forms an initial crack due to various slips, and then the crack tip repeatedly deforms under the action of shear stress, causing the crack to expand and fracture. 3.Prevention and improvement measures: Firstly, we need to increase the number of the outer wires of the wire rope and reduce the diameter of the outer wire. Secondly, reduce the wire line tension, increase the wheel groove and the drum diameter to increase the durability of the wire rope. Thirdly, lubricate the wire rope, and also apply grease, reduce the friction between the steel wire rope and the equipment to improve the fatigue resistance of the wire rope.

    Jacking is an important work in the use of tower crane, and is also an accident-prone stage. Only by making full preparations and take the announcements during and after the completion of the construction, can we ensure the smooth progress of the work. There are some special notice for tower crane jacking: 1. Preparatory work before jacking of tower crane Prepare the mast sections to be added according to the required raising height of the tower, and line masts up along the jib. The on-site staffs in charge of jacking in their place according to the duties. Check whether the hydraulic system works normally, ensure that the pressure of hydraulic oil is in line with the regulations, the expansion of the piston rod is stable without jam phenomenon. Check the condition of jacking beam and hanging plate. Adjust the clearance between jacking guide wheel and tower main chord to meet the requirements. According to the manual, lift one mast section to be added to the imported beam, and then lift another mast section, move the luffing trolley to find balance and lock the slewing mechanism. 2. Matters needing attention during jacking During jacking, special personnel should be in charge of the command, special personnel in charge of taking care of the power supply, special personnel in charge of operating the hydraulic pump, special personnel in charge of supporting the jacking beam, special personnel in charge of pulling climbing claw, special personnel in charge of installation of the mast section. All personnel must concentrate, follow instructions and stick to their posts. Jacking work is not allowed at night. In special cases when jacking must be carried out, adequate lighting must be provided. Jacking work is strictly prohibited when the wind speed exceeds level 4 or the speed specified in the manual. During the jacking process, in case of sudden wind, jacking work should be immediately stopped. During jacking, do not rotate the jib and operate the trolley. Jacking work must be stopped immediately for inspection in case of jam or other fault. If the fault is not eliminated, jacking shall not be continued. The operator must concentrate on the operation, do not put his head into the scope of imported guide wheel, so as to avoid injury from sudden movement of the mast section. Pay attention to check the required releasing length of cable, and strictly prevent cable from being pulled, jammed and squeezed in the process of moving. The newly introduced mast section must be firmly connected with the upper and lower tower before the next continued jacking operation 3. Matters needing attention after jacking Check and tighten the height bolts connecting upper and down towers. Check whether the operating handle of the hydraulic system has been set to zero position. Check and put off the power of hydraulic jacking system. Remove the mast section used for balance on sling steel , and start the locking condition of slewing mechanism.
